The National Institute on Developmental Delays is in the process of planning a gala event this summer in Santa Barbara, California. The proceeds from this event will support the Vojta Diagnosis and Training program in Mexico. This fundraising event is by invitation of the people of Santa Barbara and community involvement has already begun.
This extravaganza is an outgrowth of the highly successful roast event held at the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City on June 16, 2001 honoring Dr. Hans Brisch, the Chancellor of Higher Education. Four hundred and thirty two well wishers attended that successful event and had a hilarious time as Dr. Brisch was “roasted”. Main roasters, Lt. Governor Mary Fallin, of the State of Oklahoma, Mr. George Kaiser, president, CEO, and owner of Kaiser-Francis Oil Co., Mr. Pat McGuigan, editor, editorial page of the Daily Oklahoman, and Sandy Garrett, State Superintendent of Public Instruction vied with each other extending the laughter sessions. Dr. Brisch was presented with the National Institute Millennium Award. “He was chosen for the Award for his dedication in helping education reach every individual including those with developmental delays”, Fr. Paul Zahler, Director of NIDD said. Honorary chairpersons were Governor Frank & Cathy Keating, Governor David & Rhonda Walters, Governor Henry & Shirley Bellmon, and Governor George & Donna Nigh. Governor Nigh was also the Master of Ceremonies for this event. Representatives from various foundations, businesses and organizations and also various State Regents were present. Miss Oklahoma, Dia Webb, and Trey Davis pepped up the event with some beautiful music and song. A long list of distinguished guests added glitter to the event. Among them were Margaret Brisch, Tom & Sandy Goldsworthy, Barbara Main, Ruth Ann Dreyer, Rhonda & Mark Brister, Tom & Jackie Wilks, Pam & Roy Woods, Margaret Davis, Ann & Arnold Davis, Clifton Scott, Bob Goold, Bob & Bunn Aldridge and Tim O’Connor. From the St. Michael Foundation in Minnesota, Marion Meyer and Latisha Dick were present. From this memorable fundraiser, $92,000 was raised to aid NIDD’s on-going programs and future plans.
