About Us

The National Institute on Developmental Delays, 1900 West MacArthur Drive, Shawnee, Oklahoma, is a national resource center with a global outlook that strives to help children with developmental delays and their families. Our services extend to children, not only in the USA, but also across geographical boundaries, in keeping with our watchword ‘Service for All Children’.

Along with millions around the globe involved in child development in various ways, we share a great dream - that of a world in which every child gets the opportunity to attain optimal possible growth. The National Institute on Developmental Delays is committed to contribute, facilitate, cooperate and share with like-minded individuals and organizations to make this great dream come true. Along with our efforts to take child development programs to new levels of excellence, we also strive to bring together the best systems to make it easily and readily available.

Founded by Fr. Paul Zahler, O.S.B, Ph.D., a Benedictine monk, NIDD was an attempt to address a need in the community at the time. He has initiated a variety of innovative programs at his center in Shawnee, Oklahoma. A camp program was begun in 1972 and the Child Development Center established in 1974. The program has been going from strength to strength and is now a powerful national and international presence.
